Conditions score

No data

A score out of 100 points, not a percentage chance of finding mushrooms. Red means a high score, green a low score, and grey no assessment. Weather and habitat do not guarantee finds.

Move and zoom the map to choose a forest. Details and paths load for the area in view.

Forest paths are enabled by default and appear from zoom level 12 in the visible area. Cycle traffic counts are not numbers of mushroom pickers; missing readings mean unknown traffic.

Mushroom picking with PilzSpur

The search area extends up to 25 km from Berlin. Forests and paths come from OpenStreetMap; the source may contain gaps.

Mapped tree groups from DLR satellite data for 2022 are combined with regional weather. Weather values are regional estimates, not measurements of moisture on the forest floor.

The score describes conditions, not confirmed finds or permission to enter or pick mushrooms. Check local rules and signs. Exact observation locations remain private.

Good to know

How is habitat suitability assessed?

Each group combines the habitat profiles listed in its details. Milk caps use pine, spruce and fir; slippery jacks use pine and larch. Suitable host trees are combined according to their mapped share. Weather considers rain, soil temperature, moisture trends and water balance, including earlier conditions with a delay of 3 to 12 days: 75% earlier and 25% current conditions. These weights are model assumptions, not measured growth times. The model has not been validated against independent trip results. A score of 80 / 100 does not mean an 80% chance of finding mushrooms.

What the map does not know yet

The assessment covers the species in the group details, not every edible mushroom. The full DGfM list is linked. OSM may omit forests and paths. DLR tree data is from 2022. Direct measurements of forest floor moisture, soil chemistry and verified finds in each forest are missing. Low scores and missing data do not prove that mushrooms are absent.

Data, sources and updates

Weather is refreshed when you open the page if the data is older than 30 hours or from a previous day. If an update fails, the last valid data stays visible and is marked as old; after 72 hours the score is withheld. The page does not refresh weather while closed. Tree data refers to 2022. Paths and parking are from the OSM snapshot of 3 October 2026.
