REGIONAL GUIDE

Mushroom walks in Taunus

Taunus offers different forest habitats within reach of Frankfurt. PilzSpur has two relevant map areas, Taunus and Königstein.

Available data coverage

This guide counts entries in the existing Taunus and Königstein areas together. They do not cover all of Taunus or represent legal forest boundaries. Open the map to compare weather points and mapped tree groups.

Porcini and bay boletes: compare conditions

Choose a mushroom group to compare mapped tree groups and regional weather. The model has profiles for porcini, bay boletes, chanterelles, birch boletes, slippery jacks, saffron milk caps and parasols. Suitable conditions do not confirm mushrooms or edibility.

Season and current conditions

The season in Hesse depends on rainfall, temperature and moisture trends. A calendar month alone is not enough to plan a walk. Open the map for available weather, history and forecasts with timestamps and data gaps. This guide does not claim a current, verified field situation.

How the conditions model works

Ten weather points serve the Frankfurt search area. The German DLR tree map refers to 2022. Forests are displayed in sections up to 500 m; this does not improve regional weather resolution. Soil chemistry, direct litter moisture and independently calibrated find probabilities are missing. Exact private observation locations are not published.

Access and forest warnings

OpenStreetMap paths and parking are orientation aids, not entry or picking permission. Recognised and located official forest warnings on the map include sources, check dates and uncertainty. Absence of an icon does not establish unrestricted access. Check signs on site.
